
The 1st Meinhardt Grade A+ National Ranking Tennis Championships continued at the PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad, on Monday, with the main draw featuring some of the country’s leading tennis players
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 31st Aug, 2026) The 1st Meinhardt Grade A+ National Ranking Tennis Championships continued at the PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad, on Monday, with the main draw featuring some of the country’s leading tennis players.
Top-ranked national players, including Aqeel Khan, Muzammil Murtaza, Muhammad Shoaib, Barkatullah, Mudassir Murtaza, Hamza Roman, Abubakar Talha, Ahmad Nael Qureshi, Ushna Suhail, Mahin Aftab Qureshi, Bismal Zia, Khadija Khalil, Labika Durab and others, are competing in the prestigious national event.
The championship has attracted an overwhelming response, with more than 400 entries received across 11 categories. These include Men’s Singles and Doubles, Ladies’ Singles and Doubles, Boys’ 18 & Under, Boys’ and Girls’ 14 & Under, Boys’ and Girls’ 12 & Under, Men’s 40+ Doubles and Men’s 50+ Doubles.
A total prize purse of Rs 2 million will be distributed among the participating players.
In the Men’s Singles first round, M. Hamza Aasim defeated Heera Ashiq 6-7(4), 4-1 (retired), Sami Zeb Khan beat M. Talha Khan 6-3, 6-4, while Shehryar Anees advanced with a walkover against Zalan Khan.
Abdul Basit defeated Uzair Khan 6-2, 6-0, Abubakar Talha overcame Shahzad Khan 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(2), Hassan Usmani blanked Shakirullah 6-0, 6-0, and Ahmad Nael Qureshi beat Umar Ali 6-2, 6-0.
M. Huzaifa Khan defeated Hamza Rehmat 6-0, 6-0, Jabir Ali beat M.
Yahya 6-3, 6-0, Muhammad Shoaib defeated Saifullah Khan 6-1, 6-2, while M. Haziq Aasim overcame Abdur Rehman 6-1, 6-4.
In the Boys’ 18 & Under Singles first round, S. Hamza Hussain defeated Mahad Mahmood 6-4, 7-6(3), M. Rayan Khalil beat Ali Hassan 6-0, 6-0, and Ahmed Fareed Yawar overcame Dawood Khan 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-4.
Muhammad Hassan defeated Shahzain Faisal 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4, Razik Sultan beat Aalian Ali 6-3, 6-1, Inam Qadir defeated Haseeb Mustafa 6-1, 6-1, while Abdul Basit beat Lubaid A. Khan 6-0, 6-0.
Umair Ali advanced with a walkover against Ahmed Raza, while M. Faizan also progressed after receiving a walkover against Wali M. Hassan.
Rain interrupted play in Islamabad during the day. However, with an improvement in weather conditions, matches resumed at the PTF Tennis Complex and continued according to the tournament schedule.
President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Secretary General Zia-ud-Din Tufail conveyed their best wishes to all participating players and expressed confidence that the championship would provide quality competitive tennis and an opportunity for players to improve their national rankings.
