RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Aug, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday ordered the immediate strengthening of emergency response, fire and electrical safety systems across public sector hospitals in the province, directing authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards administrative negligence.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi, the minister directed Rescue 1122 to launch mandatory emergency response and fire safety training for hospital staff and called for clear timelines for the procurement of medical and safety equipment.
The meeting also decided to establish a provincial technical task force to inspect healthcare facilities and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Secretary Health Punjab Azmat Mahmood directed Chief Executive Officers, Medical Superintendents and Deputy Medical Superintendents to prepare updated evacuation and emergency response plans within 24 hours in coordination with Rescue 1122.
He ordered the appointment of a fire warden in every ward, immediate installation of fire alarms and detection systems, monthly inspections of electrical wiring, strict compliance with safe oxygen-handling procedures and structural safety audits in coordination with the Communication and Works Department.
He further directed that finalized safety audit reports be submitted to ensure comprehensive risk mitigation across public hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Secretary Emergency Services Dr Rizwan Naseer, Specialized Healthcare Secretary, divisional commissioners, vice chancellors, executive directors and medical superintendents attended the meeting in person or via video link.
