Sindh Varsity Plans First European Film Festival Collaboration

HYDERABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 6th Aug, 2026) University of Sindh is set to explore a new cultural and academic partnership centred on the European Film Festival, opening the possibility of bringing international cinema, creative arts and cross-disciplinary cultural activities to its Jamshoro campus.

According to the SU spokesperson Dr. Nadir Ali Mugheri, the initiative came under discussion during a meeting between Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Mari (TI) and a Lahore-based delegation comprising Ms Kanwal Irfan Ali, Mohammad Asil Baqa and Salman Tuasene Khawaja. Director of the Institute of Art & Design Prof Saeed Ahmed Mangi was also present.

The proposed collaboration is envisaged as a platform for film screenings, artistic and creative sessions, musical programs and academic activities, with the broader objective of exposing students to international cinematic traditions and encouraging interaction between academia and the creative sector.

Both sides discussed possible arrangements for jointly organizing events associated with the European Film Festival at the university, as well as developing a wider program of cultural and interdisciplinary engagements.

VC Dr Mari said the university sought to create greater opportunities for students to engage with diverse intellectual, artistic and cultural traditions. He said cinema and the arts could serve as effective bridges between societies and provide students with perspectives extending beyond their formal academic disciplines.

He emphasized the importance of linking academic institutions with the creative and cultural sectors to promote critical thinking, creativity and meaningful cultural exchange.

The delegation expressed interest in working with the University of Sindh on a range of activities combining cinema, art, music and academia. The discussions also covered the possibility of developing future programs that could bring filmmakers, artists, academics and cultural practitioners together on the university campus.
