LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Aug, 2026) Iqbal academy Pakistan organized a “Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) Conference” and a reception ceremony for Dr. Yousaf Shahid’s book “Gaisu-e-Purnam”, a poetic rendition of the Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH), at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on August 27, 2026. The event was presided over by renowned columnist and analyst Orya Maqbool Jan, while Leeds University Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Ishtiaq Gondal was the chief guest.
Renowned Seerat scholars, intellectuals, poets and writers participated in the event. The opening remarks were delivered by renowned poet Tauqeer Ahmed Sharifi, while Director Iqbal Academy Pakistan Dr. Abdul Rauf Rafiqui (Sitara-i-Imtiaz) delivered the concluding remarks and expressed gratitude to the guests. Dr. Ghulam Hussain Sajid, Dr. Shahid Ashraf, Dr. Azhar Waheed, Khalid Sharif, Baqi Ahmed Puri and Tariq Wasfi were among the distinguished speakers. Zaid Hussain performed the duties of stage secretary.
In his presidential address, Orya Maqbool Jan said that the Seerat of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is an eternal source of guidance, peace and moral excellence for all humanity. He said poetic Seerat writing is a highly blessed and sensitive literary genre, adding that Dr. Yousaf Shahid has presented a beautiful expression of devotion and love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) through “Gaisu-e-Purnam.” He said that in today’s troubled era, adherence to the Seerat of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the only way to overcome individual and collective problems.
Dr. Ishtiaq Gondal said that introducing educational institutions and the younger generation to the intellectual and practical teachings of the Seerat is an important need of the time.
He said books on the Seerat in poetic form can play an effective role in strengthening the love of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the hearts of children and young people.
The guest speakers said that love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is a believer’s greatest asset. They said Allama Iqbal had also highlighted in his poetry that the rise and decline of the Muslim Ummah is closely linked with its love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH). They termed books like “Gaisu-e-Purnam” an effective means of promoting Islamic thought and love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Speaking about his book, Dr. Yousaf Shahid said rendering the Seerat of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) into poetic form is a great honour for him and an expression of his deep devotion. He said the basic purpose behind the creation of “Gaisu-e-Purnam” is to convey a heartfelt and spiritual connection with the Holy Prophet (PBUH), immense love for him, and his universal model of conduct to readers, particularly the younger generation, through beautiful poetry.
Dr. Abdul Rauf Rafiqui thanked the distinguished guests and said Iqbal Academy Pakistan has been playing its academic and literary role in promoting the Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH). He said Dr. Yousaf Shahid’s poetic Seerat book is fully aligned with the Academy’s objectives of promoting Islamic and literary thought. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Rafiqui presented publications of Iqbal Academy Pakistan to the distinguished guests.
