UNITED NATIONS, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Aug, 2026) The Pakistan Club, an organization of Pakistani nationals working at the United Nations—hosted a special event at the UN headquarters in New York to celebrate the country’s 79th independence day,
Among those who attended were Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, Consul General Aamer Ahmad Atozai, Deputy permanent representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, members of the Club and representatives of diplomatic missions.
The Club President, Ambassador Qazi Shaukat Fareed, a former Pakistani diplomat and UN official, and Secretary General Ghulam Ghous, welcomed Ambassador Asim Ahmad and other guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Asim Ahmad expressed his appreciation of the Pakistan Club’s efforts to bring together members of the Pakistani community serving the UN Secretariat, as well as its specialized agencies, funds and programmes.
He also appreciated the Club’s contribution to promoting Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage through a range of community activities.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring commitment to multilateralism and highlighted the country’s longstanding and recent diplomatic contributions. In this regard, he underscored Pakistan’s constructive role in advancing regional and international peace and stability, including its efforts to facilitate dialogue during the recent U.S.-Iran crisis.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s active contribution to the work of the UN Security Council, including its role in advancing initiatives aimed at promoting the peaceful settlement of disputes.
The Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Jayantha Jayasuriya, also spoke on the occasion and congratulated Pakistan on it anniversary.
The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a celebratory cake to mark the Day.
