RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 31st Aug, 2026) Director Livestock Rawalpindi Division Dr. Naveed Sehar Zaidi said that a few cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) had been reported in all districts of Rawalpindi as well as other parts of Punjab, however, the situation was fully under control and livestock department staff was actively working in the field to prevent the spread of the disease.
Talking to media, he said the severity of lumpy skin disease was reduced by 70 to 80 percent in animals that had already been vaccinated. He urged livestock farmers to ensure timely vaccination of their animals and avoid creating unnecessary fear and panic regarding the disease.
He appealed to livestock farmers to extend full cooperation to Livestock Department teams and immediately isolate any animal showing symptoms of the disease from healthy animals, as Lumpy Skin Disease is a viral disease that can spread from one animal to another.
Dr. Naveed Sehar Zaidi said that under departmental SOPs, ring vaccination was carried out among 300 to 600 animals present around an infected animal to help prevent further transmission of the disease. Livestock Department field teams were actively implementing the strategy in different areas.
He further said that the Veterinary Disease Diagnostic Laboratory was also working alongside field staff, collecting samples from suspected animals and carrying out diagnostic tests. The Livestock Department was continuously monitoring the situation and taking all necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease.
