LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 4th Sep, 2026) Lahore Commissioner Noman Yousaf has directed the administrations of all four districts of Lahore Division to intensify measures against smog and take strict action against crop residue burning, smoke-emitting vehicles and other sources of air pollution.
He issued the directions while chairing a divisional meeting on anti-smog measures attended by deputy commissioners and Environment Department officials.
The commissioner directed all districts to constitute anti-smog squads and keep them fully active in the field. He ordered that Section 144 be enforced around motorways to prevent the burning of crop residue. He said burning substandard fuel, garbage, tyres and green waste is prohibited and directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Suthra Punjab and Environment Department teams to take action against violators.
Nouman Yousaf directed traffic police and Regional Transport Authority officials to impose fines and compound smoke-emitting vehicles. He also ordered zero tolerance against brick kilns emitting black smoke without zigzag technology.
The commissioner directed anti-smog squads to monitor government and private construction sites in accordance with prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure uniform legal action against violations.
The meeting was informed that squads comprising officials of the district administrations and Agriculture Department have been constituted to prevent crop residue burning.
Lahore Deputy commissioners Cap (retd) Ali Ejaz, Kasur Asif Raza, Nankana Sahib Rana Hameed and Sheikhupura Rana Tasawwur Adil participated in the meeting via video link, while Additional Commissioner Lahore Bilal Hassan attended in person.
