125-year-old Hindu Temple In Narowal Damaged By Rains, Not Demolished

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 3rd Sep, 2026) Nasir Mushtaq, the Additional Secretary Shrines of the Evacuee Trust Property board (ETPB), visited a 125-year-old Hindu temple in Siraj village on the outskirts of Narowal on Thursday to inspect the site. He was accompanied by Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, the Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs, and Tayyab Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Narowal.

The officials examined available evidence and categorically rejected rumours that the historic temple had been deliberately demolished. Nasir Mushtaq clarified that no individual or institution had caused any damage to the temple, adding that a portion of the ancient structure collapsed due to recent torrential and stormy rains.

He said describing the incident as a deliberate human act was completely unfounded, adding that anti-state elements were spreading false rumours to damage Pakistan’s positive image as a country that respected and protected minorities.

Nasir Mushtaq further clarified that no Hindu family resided in Siraj village or its adjoining areas and that the temple was currently a non-functional place of worship where no religious rituals or ceremonies were performed.

He said that with the cooperation of the Punjab government, the ETPB would soon initiate formal work for the restoration, repair, renovation and beautification of the historic temple.

The ETPB secretary reiterated the Board’s commitment to protecting and preserving minority religious sites and the country’s historical and cultural heritage. He said effective security arrangements were also being ensured for religious places and the safety of pilgrims and visitors.
