KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 3rd Sep, 2026) The Vice Chancellor Sindh Madressst-ul-Islam University (SMIU) Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, on Thursday emphasized the students to make thoughtful choices about their academic and professional fields. SMIU is not an ordinary institution, but a distinguished higher education institution of the country, possessing a unique identity defined by its historical legacy and academic standards.
Addressing the orientation ceremony for Fall 2026, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the newly admitted students at the university and encouraged them to value the opportunity they have received, honour the sacrifices of their parents, respect the legacy of SMIU, take ownership of the university community and use the extraordinary opportunities of the 21st century to build meaningful careers.
Dr. Sahrai when students choose a field that genuinely interests them and develop a passion for their profession, they themselves, their parents, the university, the province and ultimately society all benefit. He encouraged them to recognize that professional growth is strongly connected with loving and understanding the work they choose to pursue.
Addressing the Computer Science students in particular, he acknowledged that they belong to a rapidly changing field and already have access to enormous opportunities through technology and the internet.
He emphasized that the students belong to the 21st-century generation, with greater access to information, technology and opportunities than previous generations. Therefore, they must be responsible towards their study.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the character and historic association of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, with the institution, noting that he had bequeathed one third of his property to SMI through the Last Will and had also inaugurated collage over here in 1943.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai stressed upon the students that the historic buildings and environment of SMIU must be respected and protected. “Every member of the university community-from students and faculty to administrative staff and senior leadership, has a responsibility for maintaining the institution,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He reminded students that their parents may have made significant financial and personal sacrifices to support their education. Therefore, students should never take their opportunity for granted. Their responsibility is to repay these sacrifices through hard work, responsible conduct and meaningful contribution to society.
