ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 31st Aug, 2026) Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Monday said that Pakistan’s implementing legislation and ratification process for the Singapore Convention on Mediation was progressing steadily and the legislation would soon be tabled before Parliament.
Addressing the Singapore Convention Week 2026 through a video address, the Federal Minister said Pakistan had become the 58th signatory to the Singapore Convention on Mediation in May 2025.
He said that after enactment of the implementing legislation, mediated settlements reached in Pakistan would become enforceable across the Convention’s other 57 signatory states, providing greater certainty and confidence to foreign investors in resolving commercial disputes.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said Pakistan’s commitment to the Convention was not merely symbolic but a practical step aimed at reducing litigation risks, protecting commercial relationships and demonstrating to the international investment community that Pakistan viewed the rule of law as an economic asset.
He said an effective mediation framework would help create a more predictable and investor-friendly business environment and facilitate the speedy and effective resolution of commercial disputes.
The Minister said Pakistan’s objective was to establish an effective dispute resolution framework that would protect commercial relationships and strengthen investor confidence.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar appreciated the Ministry of Law, Government of Singapore and Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) for their guidance and partnership in advancing the process.
He also extended his best wishes for the success of Singapore Convention Week 2026.
