MULTAN, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Aug, 2026) Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) President, Khalid Mahmood Khokhar said on Sunday
the idea of creating new provinces must be given a serious consideration pleading
it would help end the sense of deprivation among the people in smaller areas.
Addressing a press conference, Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, said that every division
should be given provincial status to improve governance and ensure equitable
distribution of resources. He said every division already had the basic infrastructure
required for provincial administration and there was no need to build new infrastructure.
“We need to change the system, not just the faces,” he said, adding that smaller
cities and smaller regions should get their due rights and share in the budget.
Khokhar said, the agriculture sector was not performing up to it’s potential, adding
that the country’s economy would be strengthened when it’s farmer would be prosperous.
He urged the government to develop a mechanism to assess the cost of production,
farmers’ labour, crops support price and farmers be consulted on it before decisions
were finalized.
He said that Kisan Ittehad would continue the campaign for new provinces from its platform.
To a question, Khokhar clarified that he did not support the creation of provinces
on linguistic grounds.
