ATTOCK, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29th Aug, 2026) The Hindu community residing in Attock Cantonment on Saturday celebrated Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi Bandhan, with religious fervour, traditional enthusiasm and devotion, as around 44 Hindu families visited one another’s homes to celebrate the festival and strengthen bonds of love, affection and family ties. On the occasion, sisters traditionally tied colourful and decorative Rakhis around their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of love, protection, sincerity and mutual commitment, while brothers reciprocated by presenting gifts and sweets to their sisters.
Talking to APP, Pandit Sarwan Kumar of Valmiki Temple, Attock Cantonment, said Raksha Bandhan was associated with various legends and traditions but was fundamentally regarded as a festival symbolising love, protection, family bonds and loyalty. He said that although the Rakhi was traditionally tied between brothers and sisters, in some regions and families the practice was also observed among close relatives or symbolically among people who were not related by blood.
Pandit Sarwan Kumar said the tradition of Rakhi was also observed by the Sikh community, with some Hindu and Sikh families from Attock and adjoining areas visiting Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal on the occasion. He said that according to Sikh tradition, the practice was also associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji, with a tradition that his sister had tied a Rakhi on his wrist, adding that a large number of Sikhs visited Gurdwara Panja Sahib every year to observe the ritual.
He said the message of love, brotherhood and lasting peace could not be achieved through war, but through sincerity, mutual respect and compassion. Pandit Sarwan Kumar appreciated the government and local administration for extending full cooperation to the Hindu community, saying that the community faced no difficulties during the celebrations. He added that the Hindu community always prayed for the development, prosperity, peace and stability of Pakistan.
